Leadcore LC1860C Mid-to-Low-End LTE Mobile Chip: Specifications, Application Scenarios and Mingjiada Supply and Demand Services
Chip Overview: A mid-to-low-end five-mode LTE SoC
The Leadcore LC1860C is a 28nm HPM process mobile chip jointly launched by Leadcore Technology Co., Ltd. (a core enterprise of the Datang Telecom Technology Industry Group) and China Mobile, targeting the mid-to-low-end five-mode LTE communications market. Designed for smartphones and mobile devices, this mid-to-low-end LTE mobile chip employs a system-on-chip (SoC) architecture, integrating the application processor and baseband modem onto a single chip, and prioritises a balance between high performance and low power consumption.
The LC1860C is not a simple quad-core solution. It integrates six ARM Cortex-A7 processor cores, comprising one quad-core Cortex-A7 cluster and two single-core Cortex-A7 clusters, each containing an SCU, with a maximum clock speed of up to 1.5GHz. This ‘4+1’ architectural design allows the chip to run a single low-power core during standby and sensor operation, thereby effectively reducing overall power consumption. The chip also integrates three DSP cores (X1643, XC4210, TL420), responsible for internal unit configuration, communication protocol data processing and audio data processing respectively.
Key Technical Specifications at a Glance
The LC1860C is manufactured using a 28nm HPM (High-Performance Mobile) process, operates at a core voltage of 0.9V, and is housed in a BGA package measuring just 12.8mm × 12.8mm. It has an operating temperature range of –20°C to 80°C, making it suitable for both consumer and industrial applications.
In terms of computing and graphics processing, the chip is equipped with a dual-core Mali-T628 MP2 GPU, delivering a pixel fill rate of 1,000 MPix/s and a triangle rate of 100 MTri/s. It supports standards such as OpenGL ES 3.0, OpenCL 1.1 and OpenVG 1.1, with graphics processing and 3D gaming performance on a par with mainstream chips in its class. In terms of memory, it supports LPDDR2/LPDDR3 with a 32-bit data width.
Communications capability is the LC1860C’s core competitive advantage. The chip supports five-mode, thirteen-band networks comprising TD-LTE, LTE FDD, TD-SCDMA, WCDMA and GGE, and complies with the LTE Category 4 standard, achieving peak downlink speeds of up to 150 Mbps and peak uplink speeds of 50 Mbps. It also supports voice solutions such as dual SIM cards, VoLTE-SRVCC and CSFB, and is compatible with DSDA/DSDS dual-SIM dual-standby modes.
In terms of multimedia, the LC1860C integrates a 13-megapixel ISP (Image Signal Processor), supports 720p LCD display output, and offers video encoding and decoding capabilities up to 1080p@30fps, supporting protocols such as H.264 and MPEG-4. The chip features a built-in TrustZone secure architecture, complies with GP and UnionPay TEE standards, supports secure applications such as mobile payments, and incorporates hardware-based Zu Chongzhi algorithm encryption capabilities.
Typical Application Scenarios
The LC1860C was originally designed to drive the widespread adoption of cost-effective 4G devices. In 2015, Leadcore and China Mobile jointly unveiled a low-cost, five-mode smartphone solution based on this chip at MWC, priced at 50 euros, with the aim of accelerating the penetration of 4G mobile terminals in emerging markets. The Xiaomi Redmi 2A, released in the same year, was equipped with this chip; featuring a 4.7-inch 720p screen and 1GB RAM plus 8GB storage, it became a flagship entry-level 4G smartphone at the time with a price tag of 599 yuan.
Beyond smartphones, the scope of the LC1860C’s applications continues to expand. In the field of in-vehicle electronics, Meisida has launched a 4G smart rear-view mirror solution based on the LC1860C, utilising its five-mode communication capabilities and multimedia processing performance to enable in-vehicle connectivity and dashcam functionality. In the drone sector, the LC1860C has also been adopted as the main control chip in certain configurations of DJI’s Spark. In the field of emergency communications, research has explored the use of the LC1860C in the design of main control boards for portable satellite communication terminals, utilising its application processor capabilities and communication interface expandability to build modular terminal devices. In the Internet of Things (IoT) and industrial applications, the LC1860C, with its wide operating temperature range and five-mode communication capabilities, is suitable for devices such as industrial gateways, smart rear-view mirrors and video recorders.
