Supplying Texas Instruments’ TPS Series Synchronous SWIFT™ Buck Converters—High-Efficiency Power Solutions for Servers and Cloud Computing
Power Supply Challenges in Servers and Cloud Computing
As computing density in data centers continues to rise, CPUs, FPGAs, ASICs, and DDR memory on server motherboards are placing increasingly stringent demands on point-of-load (POL) power supplies: higher output current, faster load transient response, lower output voltage ripple, and smaller board footprint. Texas Instruments (TI) TPS Series Synchronous SWIFT™ Buck Converters are specifically designed to address these challenges and are widely used in server and cloud computing POLs, data center switches, rack servers, storage systems, and wired and wireless communications infrastructure.
Shenzhen Mingjiada Electronics Co., Ltd. maintains a long-term stock of the full range of TI TPS Series Synchronous SWIFT™ buck converters, covering all power supply scenarios from low-to-medium current to high-current multiphase applications. All products are genuine and authentic, and we support both sample procurement and bulk orders.
Core Technology Analysis: Key Advantages of SWIFT™ Converters
TI’s SWIFT™ (Switcher With Integrated FET) technology integrates power MOSFETs directly into the converter chip, fundamentally simplifying power supply design. Taking the TPS548A20 as an example, it integrates 9.9 mΩ and 4.3 mΩ MOSFETs, supports a continuous output current of 15 A, requires very few external components, and eliminates the need for additional compensation networks—significantly reducing BOM costs and design complexity.
In terms of control architecture, the TPS series widely employs the D-CAP3™ adaptive on-time control mode, providing fast load step response without the need for external loop compensation. This feature is critical for maintaining stable core voltages in servers’ CPUs and FPGAs during sudden load changes. Additionally, the Auto-Jump Eco-mode™ significantly improves efficiency under light load conditions, while the Forced Continuous Conduction Mode (FCCM) meets stringent output ripple and voltage tolerance requirements, making it suitable for high-performance DSP and FPGA applications.
Most models also support the PMBus digital interface, enabling frequency programming (multiple selectable ranges from 200 kHz to 1 MHz), voltage adjustment, and fault reporting, facilitating precise power management in server systems.
